I am Karin, I am a single mom to one sweetest lovely daughter. Happily married to the love of my life for ten years, but sadly my husband passed away in 2016 after being diagnosed and lived with a heart condition called idiopathic cardiomyopathy for nine years. When he decided to resign from his full-time job, we passionately decided to develop this business together. His spirit still carries on and he will be forever in our hearts.
I always love doing crafty things since my teenage years, I would cut and paste paper from magazine and made collages for greeting cards or other projects. After graduated from the university, I worked as a graphic designer in several companies. Over time, my passion for craft and scrapbook in particular really took off; I began to create and sell scrapbooks and handmade gifts and was asked to join, by one of the biggest scrapbook store in Indonesia, as their design team member to teach scrapbooking.
With my husband’s heart condition and my pregnancy in 2011, I decided to resign from my full-time job so I can concentrate on my family. In early 2014, with the biggest support from my late husband, I began seriously to establish and started expanding my business, Kriya and Me. In addition to the love of my passion for crafting and graphic design, nowadays I also still teach DIY classes to craft lovers to empower others to enhance their creativity.
Today, we have designed, produced and put our modern ethnic gift and lifestyle goods on the market including e-commerce so it can be accessed throughout Indonesia and the rest of the world. One of my goals is to promote Indonesian motifs and textiles through our modern ethnic handmade gifts to the world and help preserving our nation’s culture and heritage.
“working hard for something we don’t care about is called stress, working hard for something we love is called passion”
This is one of my favorite quotes. It inspires me to continuously being creative and productive until I am too old to cut a paper, because as Steve Jobs once said “the only way to do great work is to love what you do”. Thank you for your marvelous support and friendship. It means a lot to me and my daughter, Ainka!
